"National Museum of the US Air Force" The "Peashooter" (as it was called by its pilots) was the first all-metal monoplane fighter flown by the USAAC. The metal construction allowed it to fly much higher speeds than earlier aircraft with their wooden design. Nevertheless the P-26 only had a short military career as better planes were soon replacing it. The P-26 saw combat though with the Chinese and the Philippines who flew it against the Japanese.
