A cold winter day at Edwards, with snow on the mountains in the Mojave Desert. In 1987 there was still no F-16 in sight. This Phantom still has the old gun nozzle.

66-0377 is a Thunderbird F4-E. the gun nozzle is not a gun nozzle. Look closely at the picture and you can see is it cut at a 45 degree angle. There was never a gun in the aircraft. The gun bay is actually a travel pod. No radar either. Just 600 pounds of lead to simulate the weight of a radar package. Additionally, there were 2 storage places for engine start cartridges inside the radome. Before going to Edwards, this bird was stationed at Seymour Johnson as a hard wing trainer from the pilots going overseas. 377 and her sister ship 289 were use for this purpose.
