"National Museum of the US Air Force" Ex NX39502, N39502. The Apache is the ground-attack version of the North American P-51 Mustang. It can be recognized by the speed brakes above and below the wings. Only 500 Apaches were built and they were later replaced by P-51 and P-47s judged to be more effective low level attack aircraft. The displayed aircraft had a civilian career as a racing airplane before going to the museum in 1971. [Nikon D800 / AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm]
