This photo is of a F-86L part of the Texas Air National Guard in 1960 at NAS Dallas. The Guard commander took me over to the flight line in his staff car when I mentioned to him I wanted to build a scale model of the F-86D. This is the plane he let me photograph and sit in the cockpit, turned on the master and let me move the stick around and hear the power boosted controls. For a 16-year-old kid who loves airplanes, it doesn’t any better than that. First photo for the database. Brownie Starflex Camera

Boy does this bring back memories of the 1950's and 60's. So glad you were able to get that close to photograph such a great bird

I bet you still remember what the plane smelled like, and how rough a metal beast like that can appear when you get up close to it. Magic!

Nice photo. Reading your remark I remember my childhood on the other side of iron curtain when I also visited a military aifield and I found my self feeling same way. It doesn’t any better than that.

Through a simple act of kindness, a lifelong love of aviation is born. You have a nice photo as proof! Pay it forward everyone.

A very nice photo, and a fantastic story. Doing the right thing, going the extra mile, paying it forward - whatever you call it, it always, always pays dividends for all involved. And now it pays dividends for all of us who were nowhere near there that day! Thank You for sharing!!! :)
