This shot is so good that you can see a cylindrical protrusion just above the USA decal. I would have said that it was the inflight refueling probe, except that we can see thats not the case. Anyone know what it is? I thought I read somewhere that the J-model was the fastest of the Phantom series.

Wonderful shot of one of the greatest combat jets of all time. Very dynamic capture.
That 'lump' above the star+bar on the intake - that's the ECM housing. We had the J model in one of our squadrons in the RAF (No74 Tigers). We had the ECM removed (for some reason) but the aircraft always retained the housing IIRC.
