CT-39G Buno 160056 was originally delivered to the US Marines at MCAS Cherry Point NC in 1984. In 1992 NAVAIR made a policy decision to replace the fleet of T-39's with Gulfstream aircraft and due to a lack of funding for Scheduled Depot Level Maintenance, the aircraft was retired and delivered to the AMARG Boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tuscon AZ in 1993. In 1999 it was relocated to Mohave CA and put through corrosion inspection and repaint by The Avtel Corp. In January 2000, 160056 was transferred to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa Japan and flown to WESTPAC via NAS Whidbey Island, Ketchican, Elmendorf AK, Cold Bay, Adak, Ericksen Army Airfield Shemya, Petropavlosk Russia, Misawa AB, NAS Atsugi, and MCAS Iwakuni Japan. It operated at MCAS Futenma as the last remaining T-39 aircraft utilized for passenger service until 2002 when it was replaced by the UC-35 Citation Jet. It rests in retirement at the Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Sherman Field, Pensacola FL. (Of note: the USMC emblem on the side of the fuselage is severely faded and the black paint on the upper nose cowling is incorrect for the Marine livery. )
