The E-6 Mercury is probably the most advanced development of the Boeing 707 airframe. This photo taken at the Mildenhall Air Fete 2001 shows several of the types features: the CFM-56-2A-2 turbofan, a communications aerial and the satellite communications "hump". The E-6B can act as an airborne national command post. This example was flown by VQ-4 "Shadows" based at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

They also have a six panel glass cockpit with all digital gauges at the flight engineer's station but, thease aircraft often face engine problems. Two cables one 3 miles long and one 5 miles long stick out from the rear of the aircraft on a mission for communication
