N179UA (cn 25158/866) This was a landing with a difference, look at the direction of the aircraft comparing it to that of the rwy, the pilot eventually corrected it and landed very well.

Wow, this guy is going into the woods ... Looks like an angle of 45 degrees relative to the rwy...

A visitor from Italy posted Fri September 8, 2006:
THIS PHOTO APPEALS ME BECAUSE ITS CAPCITY TO SHOW HOW MUCH A GOOD PILOT AND A WELL DONE AIRCRAFT CAN AVOID A DISASTER.

A visitor from United States posted Tue July 4, 2006:
What happened there!!!!!

A visitor from United States posted Mon June 12, 2006:
Guys, if you look at the rudder, the pilot has intentionally put the aircraft so that it crabs into the crosswind. This camera angle definately exaggerates this more than common menuever. Great shot though, perfect timing with the smoke vortexing behind

A visitor from United States posted Sat June 10, 2006:
WILD!

A visitor from United States posted Sun June 4, 2006:
Interesting view.... not the usual aircraft photo

A visitor from United States posted Sun June 4, 2006:
It can be because of cross-wind too,you never know unless you are in the cockpit

A visitor from United States posted Sun June 4, 2006:
Camera angle exaggerates the crab. Yes it is standard to land with a crab in heavy aircraft. You can't expect the Captain to use the Cessna 152 "wing low" crosswind landing proceedure when he has to worry about scraping engine cowlings.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat June 3, 2006:
Wrong direction :)))....Hope it ended like a normal landing :/

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat June 3, 2006:
Human eye gets tricked by the long zoom on the lens which flattens the perspective. that's why aircraft appears to be at "larger" angle to runway, that it actually is.

A visitor from United States posted Thu June 1, 2006:
Yes, it is a scary landing. No, it's not standard procedure to touch down like that. What the pilot was attempting to do was bring down the airplane in a crab (not aligned with the runway) and at the last second use rudder to get the aircraft aligned at the moment it touches down. The capt mis-timed this landing.

A visitor from - posted Wed May 31, 2006:
It doesn't look like the rudder is deflected in either direction. Obviously wasn't anything expected. Awesome shot and timing.

A visitor from Canada posted Wed May 31, 2006:
Gentlemen, it is a scary sight for someone not deeply involved in the aviation industry and one who isn't a know it all about aviation... think about the average pax.

Amazing photo though, the timing from the photog. couldn't have been any better capturing this very unique landing. Well done, Morris!

A visitor from United States posted Wed May 31, 2006:
Perfect photo. Amazing how they got this shot.

A visitor from United States posted Wed May 31, 2006:
Was it related to a crosswind landing??? reminds me of the kai tak landings

A visitor from Malaysia posted Wed May 31, 2006:
I wonder if passengers ever see this through the big screen in front of cabin.

A visitor from Mexico posted Wed May 31, 2006:
Interesting landing, and comments about it. When
there is mentioning about cross winds, how come the
plants in the front of the picture, or the trees in
the back, show any sing of bending due to winds?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Cool photo well captured

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Looks scary, but is quite safe and standard procedure in crosswinds

A visitor from Australia posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Why wouldn't they have used 16R for the landing with such a strong crosswind on 25?

A visitor from Canada posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Most passengers don't even notice the angle on the runway. lol

A visitor from Uruguay posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Spectacular and scary.
See the deflection of the righ main gear by the tremendous force of the side impact.
Icredible... Long life for the 747!!!

A visitor from Singapore posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Wa-lau-eh, si-peh-kia-lang! Translated from the chinese hokkien dialect, it means: Omigosh, this is Really frightening! Thanks Morris, for sharing this frightening picture.

A visitor from Germany posted Tue May 30, 2006:
This is not a scary landing. He's right on the centerline. Just guess what would happen to the engs if you bank a 747 on touchdown in a crosswind? This is the way to do it.

A visitor from Germany posted Tue May 30, 2006:
WOW, is that ususal? I haven't seen it before...

A visitor from United States posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Excellent timing from the photographer !!

A visitor from Uruguay posted Tue May 30, 2006:
It is scary!! Look how far from the 1000 feet mark it landed!! Almost in the middle of the runway!

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Tue May 30, 2006:
A good kick on the rudder bar would get that beast back on the centreline

A visitor from Germany posted Tue May 30, 2006:
What's scary on a crosswind landing?

A visitor from Australia posted Tue May 30, 2006:
Nice photo mate! goes to show how effective that rudder coming in there is.

A visitor from Australia posted Tue May 30, 2006:
I would say that is close to 45', anyway what is scary for passengers is on most occasions quite acceptable for people in the industry and definetely not dangerous, that is what I meant.(Morris, picture taker)

A visitor from Belgium posted Mon May 29, 2006:
Scary landing? the 747 is capable of landing with almost 45` on the runway, it's only scary for the passengers in the plane.

A visitor from Russian Federation posted Mon May 29, 2006:
Looks scary! Strong crosswind?
