Nice Capture, very dramatic.
Nice picture. And just for the record, it is smoke not clouds. I live here and I flew out of LAX on that day.
Nice.. I flew that little Airbus May 25, 2010 out of KDEN. It has quite a bit of pushback at takeoff.
Look more like a volcano
This is amazing, but scares me some. I live in Southern California, and this fire was right behind my house. I was thinking more about my life, house, and where we'd evacuate to rather than how awesome it is.
My new desktop abdola from iran
This is indeed a wildfire column; the heat of combustion drives it vertically. These can get tall enough to generate lightning, complicating firefighting efforts. Volcanic plumes can also generate lightning. Much of the moisture is a product of combustion of organic materials, as in contrails. Nice shot
Touching cloth. Love the pic dude
Wow, that really is amazing. I, too see the old frowning man with the hook nose.
Great shot of that pyrocumulus! The fires are terrible things but they sure do make for some dramatic sights like this!
Cumulus clouds develop in unstable air. Unstable air consists of winds(hence lots of turbulence), and good visibility along with other things. If this were a cumulus could it would have blown out of the area in hours, not stayed in the same area for days. This is smoke.
Actually a cumulus could, especially one like this one, would not linger in the same spot for days. I have seen similar smoke could like that in FL during the wildfires.
Really cool picture! But it's a cumulous cloud.. Smoke would not be able to get up so high due to the fact that the air resists extensive vertical development like this. This is a classic cumulous cloud with I bet alot of wind shear and turbulence!
Amazing detail! | |
It looks like that giant clowd is going to eat that airplane.
Very impressive ! Seems to be much higher than 12,000 feet.
Looks like a volcanic eruption. Stunning shot of a rare sight. 5 stars!
That big cloud in the background looks like a volcanic eruption. Amazing shot. BTW happy 2010 everyone. T.B.
Does anyone else see an old frowning man with a hook nose in the cloud?
In "1" word - awesome! This is one of those exceptional photos that rates more than 5 stars. I'd give a 100 stars if it were possible. Thanks Peter for sharing it with us... Capt. Dan LAX, California
I told you it would work! Nice shot. -Matt
The major beauty of this photo is the cloud that looks like a man. Ver well spotted.
Really cool and dramatic picture.. I think the cloud would reach higher though, towering cumulous are known to reach more than 45.000 feet..
