They would not want to lift the rear of the plane, since once it starts moving there's nothing to stop it from crashing down. What they're doing is adding weight to the front, then using the crane to ease it down gently.

During a 747 hydraulics systemcheck even without safetypins installed, only the nosegear will retract not the maingear, the weight of the plane and the friction of the tyres will prevent this.

On picture 907988 by Alex Esguerra, he states that "Rumor has it this was the result of an hydraulic system check and that pins had not been installed in the gear." That would definitely be a reason for the unique parking angle of this bird.
