This is something I've never seen before. Two UA 777's were instructed to position and hold on both 28L and 28R simultaneously. I was hoping they'd drag race down the runway :) But N219UA on 28L was cleared first and N206UA on 28R about 3 minutes later. I got an email from Keith, the ATC on duty at that time. He said that the basic rule at SFO is to never load both runways simultaneously. But both 777's were ready to go and there was no aircraft on final so he could load both runways.

If they were to takeoff at the same time wake turbulence would be an issue

What a great event to have recorded. The drag race would have been awesome: kind of like a Thunderbirds takeoff. The angle is perfect for making the main gear look like a giant ski.

Very nice shot of an unusual situation. I am impressed that you appreciate that this is an unusual situation and you also chose just the right vantage spot to get the planes lined up so nicely.

Wow, two nice aircrafts together. But why has N206UA deployed thrust reversers(=>or does it only look this way?)?

You never see this ... I agree with the photographer's comment that it would have been great it they drag raced down the runway ... unfortunately, the FAA would have none of that. Great photo regardless.

It is a great view for aircraft lovers, great shot!, it would must be another great shot if the takeoff time is 1 minute b/w them, so we would be seen another great shot of takeoff these big bird. Faisal Pakistan

Ya, its very rare to have aircraft on the 28s taxi into position and hold at once at SFO because it would interfere with the landing flow. I very rarley see it here, great shot!

The Triple 7 is the finest Airliner in the Sky, and SFO is a special Airport, What perfection to catch both together, Well done to the photographer for catching a 'Dream' moment!

A surreal moment for sfo.
To the german poster, the 777 on rwy 28R hasnt got its reversers deployed, what you are seeing is the inside of the front wheel bay doors of the 777 on runway 28L in front of the port side engine.

To the poster from the UK, you may see side-by departures off of the 1's, or even the 28's when landing and departing runways 28, but you will never see it with a pair of heavy jets or 757s for wake turbulence reasons. You may, however, see one heavy or 757 with a large or small aircraft leading it slighly (so not exactly simultaneous as you would have with 2 larges or smalls).

Double 777? What does it mean?
