N574UP (cn 35663/1403) Aircraft aborted the takeoff in Germany that day due to mechanical reasons. It caused an 8 hour delay to resolve it. Therefore the crew ran out of duty time and was required to stop here and stay for the night. [Canon 40D + Sigma 120-400]

I was one of the pilots on board that flight. We were delayed a little longer than expected prior to arriving in Lajes. 2nd time to Lajes. Extremely windy that night and upon our departure that day back to the US.

GREAT Photo!

Great shot of one of the best planes ever..!

A visitor from Germany posted Sat November 21, 2009:
Without hydraulic power the rudder is free to move with the wind. Still a weird way to park.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat November 21, 2009:
Seems to me that looking at the wheel chocks on the main gear, she isn't going anywhere. Nice Capture Paulo

A visitor from Denmark posted Sat November 21, 2009:
Judging by the chocks being in place and the fans not moving, I'd say the aircraft was parked up ;) Presumably a breeze was knocking the rudder about.

A visitor from - posted Sat November 21, 2009:
I doubt anyone is steering it. Its not going anywhere with the rear wheels chocked. Great pic by the way. :)

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
I'll dare to say that this baby wasn't moving at all [look at the chalks on the main landing gear] and they parked it with nose landing gear in that position.

as for the rudder , [again] i'll dare to say that the hydraulic power is off,,,that way the wind would move the rudder

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
Folks the aircraft is stationary. Notice the wheel chocks. That said, its a beautiful new jet, in a fantastic color scheme, and fantastic lighting. Altogether, these factors make for a wonderful photo.

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
The plane is parked, look at the chocks on the outer mains. Wonder why they would park it with the nosegear at that angle...oversteer maybe?

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
Great photo, excellent light. As for the comments about steering, it seems the aircraft is chocked and parked. I've seen guys park their 'vettes like this with the wheels turned to look cool, but not a 744!

A visitor from - posted Fri November 20, 2009:
It does look a little strange that it has left rudder and a nose wheel pointed to the right. You'd think the nose wheel would be straight since the plane is parked, unless the pilots were trying to taxi over the chocks...

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
Great photo....would love to see more like this! The tiller that controls the nose wheel is in no way linked to the rudder. Perhaps one of the pilots was stepping on the rudder pedal while the captain was steering the nose gear.

A visitor from New Zealand posted Fri November 20, 2009:
It would appear as though the aircraft was turning to the right, however is now being steered to the left and the nose wheel is delayed behind the movement of the rudder, hence they are, at that moment, in opposite directions.

A visitor from United States posted Fri November 20, 2009:
How come rudder & nose gear are in opposite directions?
