I see a lot of misinformed people here, this is a cargo plane, not a people mover. It's not in direct competition with the A380, because it wont carry paying passengers. The 747 Dream Lifter was built to carry the fuselage of the 787 to final assembly. Unlike years ago, they don't always make large commercial jets in one place anymore. If I remember right the 787 fuselage is built in the mid western USA with the final assembly on the west coast. But I could be wrong ;-)

Nice photo, but a buttugly plane. Im not one to call a plane ugly, I love both the 747 and A380 but this.. is horrible. I mean the head doesnt even go with the rest! Take old pieces, recycle everything and make it some half-assed new plane? Give me a break!

A visitor from Italy posted Tue September 5, 2006:
The picture is good, but the plane looks like an inflated condom

A visitor from United States posted Wed August 30, 2006:
It looks like the 747 ate an A380.

Im the one of the sheetmetal guys who build this gigantic large cargo freighter aircraft.what is amazing is the look of this aircraft.the great thing about boeing is a big and heavy aircraft was modified into bigger and heavier monster carrier, because the skin, frames and other structures was thicker and stronger which weighs more than twice than the cut out part that made the plane very heavy.ironically it defies gravity.boeing747 is still THE QUEEN OF THE SKY!im proud of it.im proud of boeing.they dont start on scratch in building a large cargo freighter.its a great success!

This thing even makes the A380 whale look attractive.

Too ugly and weird but it seems too powerful, as well.

Anyway,it might be quite efficient, but what happen
to the super-guppy?
Seems longer and it must be an impressive view when you see it for real.
