A visitor from United States posted Thu January 5, 2006:
It is sad to see airplanes wasted :(((

A visitor from United States posted Wed January 4, 2006:
I think they're all older generation 747s apart from the United one, (I think the white one behind it's a -300), so it's not surprising they're being retired, considering even the -200 is 30 years old now. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the well looked after ones like the ex Lufthansa ones making a comeback with someone.

A visitor from France posted Wed January 4, 2006:
That United would look great in AM colors :)

A visitor from Mexico posted Tue January 3, 2006:
I hope they get into the air and not into the axe. Happy 2006 to all. T.B.

A visitor from United States posted Tue January 3, 2006:
Most of the NWA 747s appear to be older 100 & 200 series, so given their financial state, I'm not the least bit surprised to see so many of them here. Smaller more efficient mid sized planes like the 777 and forthcoming 787 are more economical and more point to point in the International flying arena. On the larger passenger demand routes, the A380 will be more of the player in the not to distant future.

A visitor from India posted Tue January 3, 2006:

A visitor from India posted Tue January 3, 2006:
Very nice shot really sad to see these 747s going to the scrapyard

A visitor from Canada posted Tue January 3, 2006:
Cool! I love this picture. I wish to have a big back yard like this and play like a little happy boy. I wonder, does aircraft heaven really exists?
I wonder, will some of them become aircrafts angels?
Dear God, Bless them all. Amen.

A visitor from Egypt posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Sad pic. But isn't this same pic in the database already ?
Btw , the LH's has got Windows because they are conversions.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Very very nice shot! I love to see all these 747s lined up.

As far as I know, a lot of cargo aircraft are actually passenger aircraft converted into cargo ones. Therefore they still have windows in, they are just blocked up. They probably pulled the blocks out when they scrapped it.

Tom

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Nice pic, but why do the LH Cargo have windows? anyone know?

A visitor from Belgium posted Mon January 2, 2006:
I almost cry with this photo. But I am surprised to see all that NWA planes. It look like they don't repaint there planes but buy new planes to paint them...:D. I wish I could buy one of them but my parents don't like I think :D

A visitor from Germany posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Bringing back nice memories... Made some training flights to Pinal Airpark during my time as a Lufthansa student pilot :-) Great shot!

A visitor from Taiwan posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Amazing Grace! Bless them All!

A visitor from - posted Mon January 2, 2006:
What a beautiful photo! Indeed it's sad to see these graceful monsters motionless and anchored to the ground, but the 747 will always be an amazing machine - flying or not! What will replace this plane will surely have big shoes to fill, but I will always love the 747!

A visitor from Germany posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Very sad to see them in the desert, so sad :(

A visitor from Netherlands posted Mon January 2, 2006:
What's the UA -400 doeing there? (left row, front)

A visitor from Germany posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Well guys, let´s be honest, it´s sheet metal bent into aerodynamic shapes which has carried millions of people and tons of freight around the world safely and now its time to reconsider its profitability. That's 2006 at the very beginning.
Nevertheless it´s somewhat sad

A visitor from United States posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Man, major drop in 747's eh? Sad to see the United stripped already. My fav of them all. Good pic!

A visitor from Canada posted Mon January 2, 2006:
Nice picture, nothing better than the 747's, my favorite aircraft.

A visitor from United States posted Mon January 2, 2006:
That's a lot of Northwest birds. I didn't realize they got rid of that many. Nice angle, by the way.

A visitor from Mexico posted Mon January 2, 2006:
It is very unhuman to scrap them! That shows that organizations are not grateful.
