One of the more interesting residents at Oneida County Airport for over 20 years was this ex-USAAF/USAF, ex-NASA C-54, operated by Aero Union (Chico, CA) under contract from General Electric Aerospace in nearby Utica, NY. The appendage extending from the nose was the original reason for the contract, which was to test the proposed GE APG-67 fire control radar for the never produced F-20 Tigershark. I always loved the sound of the P&W R-2000 engines at full bore on take off, and the photo shows it at rotation.
