It is if you're in a cessna, but not in a low-winged airliner with wing-mounted engines. They risk a pod strike like this and were obviously caught off guard by a gust. Proper technique is to crab into the wind and kick out the rudder just prior to touchdown. Great photo.

A visitor from United States posted Tue August 28, 2007:Knowing how WN pilots like doing short finals, I first thought this may have been TOO close of one!

A visitor from Sweden posted Tue August 7, 2007:Great capture! I'm happy that I was not on that flight.
A visitor from United States posted Mon August 6, 2007:Cheers to the flight crew for getting this bird on the ground safely. I fly thru LAS regularly, and this is almost always what the landings are like. Very hot temperatures outside make it a very bumpy approach in the desert!
A visitor from United States posted Mon August 6, 2007:This is a very proper crosswind landing for that size jet in a crosswind of 20-25kts, right before touchdown dip the upwind wing and "roll" the plane to the ground. Excellent shot.
A visitor from United States posted Sun August 5, 2007:Southwest Airlines Rocks! Beautiful Landing shot.
A visitor from United States posted Sun August 5, 2007:Strong crosswind from the left (check the METARs), upwind wing dipped, opposite rudder deflection. Sounds right to me! It would've been fun to be on board that aircraft, and even better to be on a Tedbus listening in on Channel 9...
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sun August 5, 2007:Nice picture there just like my no wind landings on Flight sim lol!
A visitor from Netherlands posted Sun August 5, 2007:This is great
A visitor from United States posted Sat August 4, 2007:This is a proper crosswind landing, especially in the gusty conditions at LAS. Ignore anyone who says otherwise.
A visitor from United States posted Sat August 4, 2007:Looks like a forward slip to landing
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat August 4, 2007:Coool looks like ms flighsim
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat August 4, 2007:Great photo but this is not a perfect crosswind landing! If you have had to manoeuvre the jet like this so close to touchdown you have misjudged the crosswind! Sorry to disappoint the armchair experts! ;)

A visitor from India posted Fri August 3, 2007:Just so much precision is required in whatever they do sitting in the cockpit. Wonder what the persons sitting on this side of windows would be thinking.
A visitor from United States posted Fri August 3, 2007:Wow! What a landing. I've landed many times at LAS, but none as fun as this one. Nice photo.
