Very strange situation, and a good capture. At least the pilot can see that the door is open ;-)

No wonder there is so much lost luggage nowadays!

Is not an everyday circumstance to have an open compartment and a photographer on your side.

Haha. Man, thats not a lot of space for cargo.

Detail well captured - First officer looks understandably concerned, but I think if i was F/O I would have to see the funny side to this one! (if only after a safe landing)
Good work Andreas!

Wow, that doesn't happen everyday. Hopefully nothing valuable fell out!

Nice capture! I'm glad that the plane didn't crash. The same thing happened to my friend's CJ but there was debris that came out and hit the engine/tail section. He crashed shortly after takeoff from VNY along with the other pilot. I'm glad the outcome of this was one was good, though!

You know what, i know the F/O. It was not their fault, it was a material fault in the closing mechanism. They made it safe home, but it is still a very funny story to tell.

This same situation caused a crash at VNY a few years back when the baggage door opened and luggage was ingested into one of the engines on departure. Glad this one made it back intact.

These guys are lucky! I say that because several years ago, a Cessna Citation crashed on takeoff from Van Nuys, due to an open cargo door as I recall...some a.net members will remember this I'm sure...

To the comment below, yes I remember well, as it was the husband of the owner of the FBO I used to fly out of. Very tragic accident.

To the comment below: Did the aircraft crash because of an open cargo door? How is that possible?
