The "Tico Belle" is a genuine WW2 veteran and her D-Day invasion stripes are the real article (though repainted of course). As USAAF 42-100591 she actually took part in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Sadly her luck ran out in July 2001 when she suffered a landing accident resulting in significant damage to the undercarriage and engines, some of which is visible in this photograph. The Museum had already started a determined restoration programme!
