N104RB (cn 183-1024) A sad picture - all that was left of Darryl Greenamyer's Starfighter in 1987. Greenamyer built this Starfighter using pieces obtained from many sources. On October 24th 1977, he set a FAI 3km speed record of 988.26 mph, which still stands. On February 26, 1978, while preparing an assault on the FAI altitude record, he was unable to get the landing gear to lock before landing. As it was dangerous to land in this condition, he was forced to eject and the airplane was destroyed, as shown in this picture.
