Northrop P-61B Black Widow - Untitled
This photo is copyright protected and may not be used in any way without proper permission.
This 13th Air Force, 550th Night Fighter Squadron P-61 Black Widow crashed during a test flight on Cyclops Mountain, New Guinea on January 10, 1945. She sat undisturbed for 40 years until a team from the Mid Atlantic Air Museum (MAAM) recovered her. MAAM volunteers are restoring the aircraft with about 70% new construction. When restoration of this rare bird is complete, she will be able to do something the three other extant P-61s can’t do—she will fly!
