This is about where I started to get a little worried. The nexrad was an hour old and a small line was starting to form new the Flat Rock VOR, not to mention it was starting to look dark outside! A helpful Washington Center and Flight Watch kept us bump free for the remainder of the trip. As luck would have it as soon as we were back in VMC the Nexrad updated!

Nexrad is to inform about those thunderstorm activities, among other tasks, but shouldn't be the only source of information.
