Built at Castle Bromwich and delivered to the Royal Air Force as BM597 in 1942. Assigned to 317 (Polish) Sqn in Sep-1942 and the codes JH-C applied. Retired from active service in 1945 and later the gate-guard at RAF Hednesford (1952-54), RAF Bridgnorth (1960-62), RAF Church Fenton (1966-75, 1969-75, 1979-88), RAF Linton-on-Ouse (1975-79). Also used as the pattern master for the replica Spitfires in the movie <I>Battle of Britain</I>.
