The Seafire 17 had a combination of features that made it unique; the Griffon engine had a single-stage supercharger and so had a shorter nose profile than the other Griffon versions, and it powered a four- rather than five-blade prop. A sleek wrap-around windscreen was also unique to this variant, as was a fin and rudder higher than the F.14 but not as high as the F.24. This recently-restored Westland-built example is owned by Timothy Manna of Old Warden. It is seen here at the Kemble Air Day.
