WOOOOW!!!! Check this out! A former Bulgarian fighter pilot at the controls! He lifted off, instantly pulled the nose back down again, waited until the gear was up and then rocketed into the air. What a sight!

Great pic, only it's a BULGARIAN pilot, not a russian one! ;)

Nice shot! But how do you know he's an ex-fighter pilot?? And just for the record, a nose is "pushed" down, not pulled!

Great shot. The Pilot was the CEO of Air Via and not a former fighter pilot. This was the last flight with Tu-154 from EDDL to BG. This summer Via will change to A320.

This is how all planes should takeoff. Rotate then immediately level off and put the gear up and then climb away.

Nice! I've flown Tu154M many times with Pulkovo, and it was always fun. The climb rate is incredible, you really feel that you're flying if the pilot is in the mood to give his pax a ride. And for me Tu154M sure is THE most elegant looking plane ever. Hope they are kept in service as long as possible. Pity that Pulkovo started converting to 735s.

Realy rare situation in civil life - but not a wonder! All old Russian civil airplanes were made in accordance with specifications and requirements as for bombers. Due to for example TU-134 can TAKE-OFF with one engine only (undocumented but really tested) As a result old Russian planes are very strong and heavy that result in LOW fuel efficiency. It is a reason why Russian companies replace it with Boeing and Airbus models. Best regards from Russia. Have always clear sky.

Amazing! They need to do that kind of stuff here in the US too! Maybe with a Mad Dog or something, as I'm sure tail-mounted engines help. Then again, the Tupolev does have the power of its Soveiet ancestors.
Imagine this in an ERJ... ;)
