A visitor from United States posted Fri August 27, 2010:I'm guessing there's JATO rockets on the aft end of this bird? That doesn't look like the runway to me. Great pic capturing a thousand dollar error that doesn't happen often. People make mistakes, luckily this mistake didn't result in anyones death.
A visitor from United States posted Tue April 13, 2010:The main cause behind this is that big heavy engine in the back, and as was mentioned, loading procedures were not followed. Seeing pictures like this make me understand why we at UPS have such procedures to prevent this!!
A visitor from United States posted Mon December 21, 2009:This seems to happen more in the MD-11 than in any other aircraft (even more than in the 727). Clearly improper loading is the culprit, but I wonder what it is about the MD-11 that makes it so prone to workers screwing up the load procedure. It seems like improper loading on these birds has also contributed to at least one crash (the most recent one in Shanghai comes to mind)

A visitor from New Zealand posted Fri July 7, 2006:New VTOL MD-11? Is there anything these planes can't do?? lol What on earth was put in the back to throw a 100tonne airliner on its but..
A visitor from Ireland posted Mon May 29, 2006:I once saw this happen to a Britten Norman Trislander (G-FTSE) while on work experience with Aurigny in 2002 because they unloaded a palette of fruit from the nose before the tail ballast was removed. They blamed the pilot for being a "fat bugger". The aircraft was not damaged thanks to a pole inserted in the tail which arrested the Trislander's rotation. Although I think it's much more serious in this case...what with the MD-11 being exponentially larger...:p
