Never in my life would i see a rainbow photo effect from a plane that is a virgin aircraft with only two colors red/white and to end up with this contrast "must be the affect of heat /cold as plane reduces speed?

A visitor from Ireland posted Fri September 4, 2009:
Just Amazing

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon August 31, 2009:
The light is probably the camera's flash...jk

A visitor from Brazil posted Wed August 26, 2009:
I have the same question as others, out of curiosity, how's that rainbow effect achieved if there's no sun/light source around and the belly is very bright (for night time anyway)?
Great image, though.

A visitor from United States posted Sun August 9, 2009:
Rainbows on water vapor are only visible when the lightsource is coming from behind the viewer. in this case the light is coming from behind the object as evident by the shadow cast by the wings on the jet engines. nice photoshop work! good composition.

A visitor from Russian Federation posted Mon July 27, 2009:
Interesting, but I can't understand two things. What makes the belly so shiny and bright in night and why light develops so evenly all over belly? Strange. Looks like an airplane under projector spot ;) Too strange

A visitor from Netherlands posted Wed July 8, 2009:
Just magnificent! Awesome capture.
But to the fellow Dutchman far below, who asked why the engine inlets can be seen while climbing.. I have a pretty easy anwer to that one! The engine inlets are not vertically. The top part hangs more forward than the bottom part. So then you've got a big chance to see the Inlet from this angle!

A visitor from Mauritius posted Sat July 4, 2009:
Magnificent - looks like a ski-boat skimming on water. Any idea what causes the 'vapor trailing' from the wings' 'neutral areas' (between engines, not at edges/winglets etc.)?

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon May 18, 2009:
Gives the impression that the aircraft is doing a back stroke in a river with a wake behind it

A visitor from United States posted Thu May 7, 2009:

A visitor from Bahamas posted Wed September 3, 2008:
The picture not only captivates the plane but it captivates what a plane can show off at those altitudes. Its also nice because of the fact it looks like he took it at night.so u can definetly catch every part of the contrail. this picture is just awesome. until i saw this picture, i only thought that contrals are only made from the engines, the winglets and the flap vortices. well appearently i was wrong.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Sat August 5, 2006:
Catching the moment should be the purpose of any photographer, and this does exactly that. The beauty of the lighting and stark contrast against the sky just makes it that bit extra special. For the Canadian commentator - the rainbow is exactly standard, light reflecting through and from ice crystals (at this altitude) at varying angles, giving us the rainbow. The low pressure areas above the wings and in the vortices at the wingtips cause the spontaneous creation of ice since the pressure drop also drops the temperature. The crud from the engines also spontanously freezes to provide the normal contrailing. Together you get this beautiful effect. Then again, everything looks better from the air. :-)

A visitor from Finland posted Sat August 5, 2006:
Hey hey I want to see this colouful contrail live!
