71212 (cn unknown) Sad, damaged and forgotten - with only two Thunderjets to keep it company - this Dak waits out its days at the abandoned Zeljava airbase. One of former Yugoslavia's most important military installations, Zeljava was once the largest airbase in these parts, with five runways and a 3.5 kilometer long complex of underground tunnels capable of handling up to 100 MiG-21s. It was abandoned in 1992 during the Balkan Wars, when the retreating Yugoslav National Army "disabled" it with over 56 tons of explosives.
