The -21 was known as the hot-rod DC-9, because it had the fuselage (and therefore weight) of the -10 series nine, but the wings and engines of the larger -30 series. Not many were built, and all started life with Scandinavian. Several made it out of Scandinavia to the US and were operated by ValuJet and Allegiant Air. Allegiant Air have now retired their -21 to Victorville, where it can be seen with a 757, a TWA 717 and a former American/Reno Air MD-80 in the background
