I was assigned to a rebuild crew of this plane in 1978 while I was stationed at NAS Willow Grove for 77 to 81. This picture is from just before that time. We added the multiple nose antennae that was orginally built on this plane. We repaired a lot of deteriorated sheet metal and repainted it with the dark color along with a robin egg blue and also added the swastika to the tail. To my knowledge, at the time of our renovation of this plane, the original engines were stored in a bunker on the back 40, but I never got to see them.
This particular plane was captured over France, I believe in 1944, and flown by an American to the states in 1948. If anyone can add more info on this plane's history, it would be great. I was attached to AIMD Ground Support from 1977 to 1981.
