The “City of Rotterdam” is being pushed from the gate. I like the DC-9, though not the version from series 50 upwards. Too slim. Where for instance the Boeing 727 has enough meat on her to undergo a stretch gloriously, the DC-9 loses its charm altogether. She starts looking like Popeye’s girlfriend.

Hey, I'm with you, brother. The MD-80 is to the DC-9 what the new Mini and the new Beetle are to their original counterparts; vaguely reminiscent, soulless shells. Nothing against the lovely Olive Oyl, of course. She was a beanpole like no other.
