Del 09/89. Taxiing to the runway, this Learjet suddenly lost control of the nosewheel and slammed to a halt. The pilot had to get out of the plane, turn the wheel manually, and signal his co-pilot to come forward before manually turning the wheel again, as the cockpit had no directional control. I wonder if those who paid $10,000 per hour for the rental got their money back :-). One thought - what if the wheel had failed at takeoff or landing, instead of taxiing. It could have been very serious.
