The scrapping procedure was first to strip the plane of anything non-metallic, hang concrete balasts from the nose, remove not more than one or two engines, chop off the tail and remove the remaining engines. A crane with a concrete gillotine chopped up the planes and the wreckage was lifted by another crane into an enormous smelter.
