The fifth of six prototype P-1127's constructed to develop the principle of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). The development, some 53 years ago now, lead to the highly successful Harrier. She's powered by a Bristol Pegasus vectored thrust turbofan producing approximately 13,500lb of thrust in final version giving a maximum speed of 720 mph at 36,000ft. Her first flight was on 24/02/1963 at Dunsfold. Preserved in Hall 4 at the impressive Fleet Air Arm Museum (Canon 50D + Sigma 10-20 EX DG HSM)
