This is the original 1929-built Supermarine S6A which set a world-speed record the same year, of 322mph, at the Schneider Trophy race near Calshot. The British team won the Trophy three times in succession and therefore keep the title indefinately. That outright victory was celebrated on 13-Sept-1931, and 75 years later the RAF Museum commemorated the event by borrowing this original S6A from Southampton's Solent Sky museum. Displayed with another British aviation icon - the Lancaster bomber.
