The wings are the most recognisable pieces of wreckage of this Royal Navy Firefly T1 which crashed in bad weather on the North-facing slope of Cuidhe Crom on 16 May, 1949. The aircraft, from 766 Squadron, had been flying out of RNAS Fulmar (Lossiemouth) on that fateful day. Both crewmembers were killed in the accident. The wreckage can be spotted from several kilometres away due to the yellow training paint scheme which, remarkably, is still much in evidence over 60 years later.
