True story: Petie 3rd. came about because of a new man, his first day on the flight line, backed Petie 2nd. into some drop tanks damaging the elevator. The poor guy was hysterical for damaging the Squadron Commander's plane. Jim Bleidner, one of Lt.Col. John C. Meyer's ground crew, told him to calm down and go get a new plane from the depot and he would tell Meyer his old plane was in for maintenance. The new plane, Petie 3rd. Bleidner saved his bacon! Story told at the 1984 352nd FG reunion.
