Look familiar? A forerunner of the Republic P-47, the P-35 was the USAAC first production single-seat, all-metal pursuit plane with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Of the 76 P-35s accepted into service, this example on display at the National Museum of the USAF is the only known survivor. It served with the 94th Pursuit Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group and is marked as the plane flown by the 17th Pursuit Squadron commander in the Philippines in the spring of 1941. Marked as P-35A 41-17449 in the TDB, but actual identity is USAAF 36-404 (a P-35).
