USA - Air Force
North American XB-70A Valkyrie
Dayton - Wright-Patterson AFB (Wright AFB) (DWF) (closed)
USA - Ohio, August 1973
Remark
Photographer
62-0001 (cn 278-1) The proposed fleet of B-70 deep penetration nuclear bombers was cancelled in 1961 due to high costs and the introduction of ICBMs, but two prototypes of this awesome six-engined Mach 3 beauty were used in supersonic test flights from 1964 to 1969. One crashed following a midair collision with an F-104 while filming in 1966, the other became an outstanding exhibit at the USAFM, arriving on 4.2.69. One of the most memorable sights of my first visit to the USA

Russia - Air Force
Sukhoi T-4 Sotka
Monino
Russia, August 21, 2010
Remark
Photographer
101 red (cn 6903048) Sukhoi T-4, or "Aircraft 100", or "Project 100", or "Sotka", or Su-100 was a Soviet high speed reconnaissance, anti-ship and strategic bomber aircraft. Despite design similarities, the Sukhoi T-4 was not intended as a Soviet equivalent of the North American XB-70 Valkyrie supersonic bomber, but was rather intended to take advantage of many of the XB-70's aeronautic innovations to develop a smaller reconnaissance and anti-carrier aircraft capable of reaching Mach 3.

Remark

62-0001 (cn 278-1) This angle shows why the XB-70A Valkyrie was unofficially nicknamed 'Cecil' by her test crews after a children's tv cartoon character 'Cecil the Sea-Sick Sea Serpent'.

Remark
Photographer
60-6935 (cn 1002) It comes to something when a machine like this one ISN'T the most impressive in a hangar! Seen here at the Research and Development scetion of the USAF Museum, this YF-12 interceptor was nestled under the huge wing of the even more amazing XB-70 Valkyrie.
