ZK-CIB (cn 327A) 'Chathams niner six' holding short, while a SIA B777 is touching down on runway 23. It was a unique experience to see the pilots doing their job by flying this workhorse built in the early 1950's. The pilots had a pretty high workload throughout the whole flight, so no way to compare the good old Convair with modern airliners, where computers support the cockpit crew in many ways. |

N***** The Cradle of Aviation Museum. This nose been recently repainted from United to Lufthansa colors. It may have come from N24AT (c/n 148) which was put in storage at Islip-Long Island MacArthur by 1993, and was last seen there in 1996. The airport is not far from the museum and it's likely that N24AT was scrapped there with its nose section being preserved. (I'm grateful to Aad van der Voet for this information.) N41527 (cn 346) Awesome opportunity to get up close to the flight deck. Pretty much a vintage cockpit except for the addition of a GPS, and upgraded avionics. This Convair also participated in the 2010 Haitian Relief efforts. Thanks to the crew for the opportunity! |
