Ottawa - Rockcliffe (YRO / CYRO)
Canada - Ontario, August 20, 2014
Remark
Photographer
10132 (cn 10132) This 109 was manufactured by Erla Maschinenwerk in 1942 and sent to the Eastern Front. In August of that year, the aircraft was damaged in combat forcing it to crash-land near the Arctic port of Murmansk. Eventually the plane was acquired by a British complany who restored it in these original markings, however, the original combat bullet holes were nor repaired and are still visible. Acquired through exchange in 1999 it is now on display at the Canada Aviation & Sapce Museum.

Chino (CNO)
USA - California, July 24, 2013
Remark
Photographer
3523 (cn 3523) This 109 was built as a E-1 in 1939 and fought in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain. After upgrade to E-7 it was delivered to the Eastern Front and flown by Wulf-Dietrich Widowitz (36 victories). On 4th April 1942 Widowitz was shot down by a Hurricane and forced to make an emergency (but near perfect) landing on a frozen lake. The aircraft eventually sank through the ice and remained on the lake bed until recovery in 2003. It is pictured here awaiting restoration at the Planes of Fame museum
