D-ABYB (cn 19747/29) Rare window view from Lufthansa's second 747 (showing the port wing flaps) on approach to Kai Tak's Rwy 31 in 1974. The bay below is Chai Wan, on the NE coast of Hong Kong Island. Thanks to Joseph K.K. Lee for identifying the location. Lufthansa Boeing 747-130 D-ABYB took me to Hong Kong from Frankfurt, via Athens, Kuwait, Delhi and Bangkok. D-ABYB ("Hessen", Del: 13Apr1970) was the first civil Boeing 747 to crash - on 20Nov1974 at Nairobi Airport, Kenya, sadly with the loss of 59 lives. Low res photo. |
