Boeing
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Seattle - Boeing Field / King County International (BFI / KBFI)
USA - Washington, December 3, 2013
Remark
Photographer
N789FT (cn 41989/133) The second 787-9 was not built with a winch for its trailing static cone. As a result, on test flights requiring it to be trailed at a distance behind the aircraft, it has to be carried inside the fuselage, and laid out behind the aircraft once it is lined up on the runway. This was my first occasion seeing this process in action. The engineers also give a great sense of the scale of the aircraft!

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Auckland - International (AKL / NZAA)
New Zealand, January 5, 2014
Remark

N789FT (cn 41989/133) My 500th upload. The view down the sleek wing of the 787-9 from Door 2L. As you can see, the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine is a fair distance away from the fuselage in comparison to the 777 engine position. Thanks to Air NZ, Boeing and AusBT

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Auckland - International (AKL / NZAA)
New Zealand, January 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
N789FT (cn 41989/133) The cockpit inside the 787-9 is identical to the 787-8, apart from some minor details such as the fact that the 787-9 has an extra flap setting. Heads Up Displays are starting to become the norm. Thanks to Air NZ, Boeing and AusBT

Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Auckland - International (AKL / NZAA)
New Zealand, January 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
N789FT (cn 41989/133) The test equipment lies in the middle section onboard ZB002 and the wires go everywhere. As you can see, unlike the 788 test birds, the interior (less the seats) seems to be fully fitted. The window shades were fully functional. The engineers also included a runway of sorts down the middle of the plane! Thanks to Air NZ, Boeing and AusBT

Remark
Photographer
N789FT (cn 41989/133) The back section onboard the test bed ZB002 is a full Economy Class cabin. Boeing personnel did fly on these seats - whose IFE is not connected - from Seattle to Auckland which took nearly 14 hours. Once testing is finished, this plane will be delivered to Air NZ as ZK-NZD. Thanks to Air NZ, Boeing and AusBT
