N529B (cn 11547) The CAF's B-29 "FIFI" is seen here with three of its four Wright R-3350 Cyclone engines idling. Engine number 4 has just coughed to life as it spews smoke. The massive 16'7" Hamilton Standard propellers are geared down to rotate at about 1/3 engine speed, or around 300 RPM at engine idle.

N4249 / A (cn 11547) Standing fire watch while "FIFI" No.1 engine is just starting. "FIFI" had just returned from filming the made for TV movie "ENOLA GAY" starring Patrick Duffy. You can still faintly see where the words "ENOLA GAY" were painted on a slant just next to the repainted word "FIFI". Became N529B in Aug 1981.

44-61975 / 55 (cn 11452) This was taken from the forward bomb bay of the Fortress looking towards the nose. Although very similar to ANET Photo ID 1141635, some noticeable differences are visible. The trip to the NEAM turned out to be fortuitous this day -- a lot of special access was being granted to visitors, including the restoration hangar and research library.

44-62220 / T5 4614 (cn 11693) After retirement this aircraft was on display at the Kelly AFB Museum. When Kelly AFB was closed it was moved to the History and Traditions Museum at Lackland AFB. This is not the orginal "Joltin Josie". Josie was lost with her entire crew on April 1, 1945.
