55-3123 (cn 17239) The NKC-135A on display is one of 14 KC-135As permanently converted for special testing. It was extensively modified by the Air Force Weapons Laboratery at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, and used in a 11-year experiment to prove a high-energy laser could be operated in an aircraft and employed against airborne targets. During the experiment, the Airborne Laser Lab destroyed five AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and a Navy BQM-34A target drone. The aircraft was flown to the museum in May 1988. |

55-3124 (cn 17240) This machine (Call sign Agar 08) was used in a major USAF programme called Project Press, which studied re-entry characteristics of Ballistic Missiles and these tests took place at the Kwajalein Islands. Look closely and you will be able to see the nine, optically ground windows cut into the fuselage and since faired over. The machine was used, also, in Project Cross Track, an ECM project out of Eglin AFB and a small fairing, below the cockpit, was part of the equipment fit for the project. |

55-3131 (cn 17247) Another rare Stratotanker, this NKC-135A was the 14th of the type constructed and was operated by the Air Force Systems Command 4950th Test Wing. She was retired in October 1992 and her 'Aurora Explorer' artwork hints at secret missions in her eventful past. |
