XG474 / O (cn 13365) One of the most unusual exhibits at the RAF Museum, this Belvedere spent most of its short service life between 1962 and 1969 with 66 Sqdn in the Far East. Of the 26 built, three survive; the other two are at the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare and the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester |

XG474 / O (cn 13365) Very difficult to get the entire long machine in the picture! Remembered for its use in Malaya. |

XG474 / O (cn 13365) The predecessor to the Chinook helicopter, the Bristol Belvedere first flew on July 5, 1958. The helicopter was novel with its twin rotor, and odd anhedral tailplane. It is very long - 16.5m (54'), and its proximity to the other exhibits unfortunately precludes a shot from side-on. When I found somebody else had poached my plan to be the first to show this aircraft on a.net, I thought: "knickers". |

XG474 (cn 13365) First upload of this aircraft to a.net! This post WWII helecopter was the built in Weston-super-Mare, and was the RAF's first twin rotor to enter service. The Belvedere gained it's nickname the 'Flying Longhouse' while operating in remote parts of Borneo, where indigenous tribes named it after their huts. XG474 was the third from last Belvedere ever built. |
