A4-225 / 225 (cn 225) Rare 1976 Overview of RAAF Base Amberley's airfield (and Ipswich at rear), taken during an Airshow in June 1976. 38 Squadron Caribou A4-225 is about to perform a STOL Landing on Amberley's main runway. Later, four F-111s did a formation flypast, all doing a 'Dump and Burn'! Low res scanned Agfa CT21 (grainy) slide. Apologies for the quality of this 33 year old photo. |

A4-264 / 264 (cn 264) Low res fish-eye lens 'window view' of the Markham River Valley - west of Lae, approaching Nadzab Airfield. Photo taken 'in flight' between Lae Airport and Mt Hagen Airport, aboard RAAF 38Sqn Det A Caribou A4-264 (based at Port Moresby). The port side Pratt and Whitney 1450HP R-2000 Twin Row Wasp engine is distorted in this 'wide angle' view. (No port noise complaint!) A4-264 later crashed at Camden NSW, on 04July1986. Apologies for quality of this 34-year-old photo. |

A4-140 / 140 (cn 140) Rare low res 1964 photo of the RAAF's second (and oldest) Caribou aircraft (Callsign VM-JMB), which was Delivered to 38 Squadron, Richmond, in March 1964. The new aircraft was displayed at the 1964 RAAF Laverton Airshow, one month after the RAAF Transport Flight Vietnam (RTFV, later 35 Sqn) became the First RAAF Unit deployed to Vietnam on 08Aug1964. This aircraft is still in Service, with 38 Squadron Townsville, where I also photographed her on 27Sep2009. She is about to retire after 45 years Service. |

A4-236 / 236 (cn 236) Close cropped view of the nose of 38 Squadron Caribou A4-236. She was on static display at the ADF Open Day at RAAF/Army Base Townsville late in Sep2009. She had celebratory Logos: '45 Years of Operations' on the nose (and '1964-2009 - 45 Years Service to the Nation' on the tail.) A4-299 at rear is similarly adorned. (I was responsible for maintenance of A4-236 at Butterworth Malaysia in 1982, and flew in 236 seven times since April 1969.) A well earned retirement awaits. |
