D-9530 / 12 (cn E-1) The experimental Do-31, capable of making vertical take offs and landings, was developed as a tactical support aircraft for NATO airforces. The project was cancelled in 1970 due to high costs, technical problems and a change of requirement. E-1 is on display at the Dornier Museum in Friedrichshafen. |

D-9531 (cn E-3) Built in 1967 the Dornier 31 was the only ever built jet engined military transporter with vertical take off capabilities. MTOW 21t with a fuselage for a standard 3t NATO truck. Only three were built of which one was only used for ground maneuvering and test flights ended in 1969. They never produced more and the project had been cancelled. |
