51-0135 (cn 43975) "National Museum of the US Air Force" Actual 52-1066. The USAF's heaviest piston-engined transport airplane, it was evenutally replaced by the C141 Starlifter. The Globemaster was able to carry up to 31 tons of cargo, including tanks, bulldozers or other heavy equipment. Alternatively it could also carry 200 fully equipped soldiers. 51-0177 (cn 43511) Initially with the Military Airlift Transport Service and latterly with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II was a frequent visitor to Mildenhall and was even a temporary resident for a few months in 1968-69. By 1972, it had disappeared from front-line service, but remained active with second-line echelons until the autumn of 1974.
