G-AMPY (cn 15124/26569) G-AMPY Once again Kemble re-lives the past as Julian Firth displays this Air Atlantique veteran at the Battle of Britain air show. The last Dakota to serve with the RAF wore this colour scheme when it was retired from service in Germany and returned here to Kemble in March 1970. Originally a lend-lease C-47, G-AMPY saw service in Burma in 1944, was civilianized for Starways in 1952 and has since served in Jordan, Icelend and the USA as well as with numerous British operators including Intra Airways. |

ZA947 / AI (cn 10200) This C-47 was built in 1942 and transferred from the USAAF to the Royal Canadian Air Force in the same year, remaining with the RCAF until 1971. It was then purchased by RAE Farnborough and registered KG661. Following the discovery that another C-47 had carried that serial, the new number ZA947 was issued. The aircraft went to BBMF in 1993 following overhaul by Air Atlantique at Coventry. Aside from historic displays, it is used for general transport duties and crew training on behalf of BBMF. |
