N27WC (cn 93) Seen heading for a 28L departure this Fairchild F-27 was an unusual visitor to Heathrow. It was staging through on the way to Saudi Arabia where it became HZ-BOF. It returned to the US with Continental as N383BA and ended it's days with Aerocaribe as XA-RJO being scrapped at Cozumel in 2003.Scanned from a slide. |

TP-0205 / XC-UTD (cn 90) I received a lot of expert response to my upload of Navy F27 MT-205 which just went to show how tricky the history of these Mexican Fairchilds actually is. This one is recorded by some as c/n 26 XC-UTB but I have seen photoproof that she in fact carried XC-UTD as her alternative identity (hidden behind wing in this view). Originally with Banco de Mexico as AP-0204 and from 1987 XA-MCJ of Aerocaribe. Partially scrapped at Merida 1993 |

N746L (cn 37) The old Saudia colours looked good on most types and here is one of the least-often seen. This aircraft spent two lease periods with them (3.75-4.77 and 1.78-11.80), having started out in 2.59 as N146L (later N746L) with Bonanza, merged into Air West and then Hughes Airwest in 4.70. Sold to Aeronor Chile as CC-CBS in 12.80 and now on display at the old Los Cerrillos airport in the Chilean National Air & Space Museum |

F-OGJB (cn 103) There are a couple of things I well recall about my visit to Guadeloupe; one was this colourful Fairchild, the other was the total dump of a hotel I overnighted in down by the docks - a scary experience! Initially an F27A N2776R with Pacific Air Lines in 3.64, this aircraft later went to UTA (F-BFQQ), Air Affaires Gabon (TR-LWB) and TAT (F-GBRR) before conversion to 'J' and moving to the Caribbean in 1.80. Into store at Dinard 1990 and allocated SE-KZF, F-GGZP but both ntu; derelict in the woods late 90s |

HK-1137 (cn 40) This well-known Marana inmate began life with Aloha as N5095A back in 5.59 and became CF-QBE with Quebecair in 12.67. TAC leased her from 12.70; to LN-BSD 11.83 and later OY-MUF with Muk then Newair; broken up at Billund 2002 |

MT-205 (cn 25) Rarely seen in these marks, this Fairchild is easily confused with TP-0205/XC-UTD (c/n 90, tho' some sources say 26) of the FAM also photographed on this trip. C/n 25 began life way back in 12.58 as YV-C-EVP with Avensa. Ozark flew her in the mid-60s as N4305F and after a series of financial/corporate ownerships she landed up with the Armada de Mexico from 7.76. Thought to have been w/o at MEX 4.88 |

5T-CJT (cn 62) We were lucky enough to get three of the Mauritanian Fairchilds through Southend for maintenance. This aircraft, of 1959 vintage, initially served the colourful Bonanza Air Lines (which had a fleet of 11 of the type) as N148L then N748L, being sold on in 7.74 by Hughes Airwest via IAL to Mauritania. She returned to the US in 12.83 and two years later found her way to Aerocozumel in Mexico, taking up the reg XA-NAP formerly used on a Comet 4. Wfu at Cozumel early '90s |

5T-CJU (cn 65) Seen here in the old colours awaiting maintenance with BAF, this F27 was another Bonanza machine, delivered to them in 10.59 as N150L (later N750L). Bought by the Mauritanians in 6.74, she found herself back in the States ten years later, joining Horizon as N280PH and being converted to F27J standard. She headed south in 7.87, becoming LV-PAD and later LV-AZV with CATA. Dismantled around 2002 and fuselage/tail now at a technical college in Buenos Aires near Aeroparque |
